RIE (Raviji’s Infanity Education) welcomes you to the world of Indian Classical Dance – Bharatanatyam – Online Natya Course by Sugamya Sankar.
Bha meaning emotion (Bhava), Ra meaning music (Raaga) , Ta meaning rhythm (Taal) and Natyam meaning dance. Thus Bharatanatyam is the dance that encompasses music, rhythm and expression and strictly adheres to the Natyashastra (the scripture of classical Indian dance). The theoretical foundations of Bharatanatyam are found in Natya Shastra, the ancient Hindu text of performance arts.
We at RIE’s Online Natya Course aim at presenting aspirants who have the passion towards learning dance as a part of their lifestyle and inspire many other such aspirants to indulge into the world of art as an expression of life.
Sugamya Sankar
Sugamya Sankar, a born dancer, is introduced to classical dance at her age of two years. When she was in her 12th Standard, Pujya Guruji Rishi Prabhakar who visited her home blessed her to fulfill his dream of establishing Kalakshetras everywhere.
She joined Kalakshetra, Chennai and completed her diploma there in Bharatanatyam with flying colours. She is continuously improving her skills by going through various workshops by some of the great masters like her inspiring teachers, Natya Acharya Sri Sibi Sudarshan from Kerala and Smt. Bragha Bessel, Chennai.
She has also studied her graduation in Psychology from Madras University, which immensely helps her in expressing Abhinaya having the healing effect on her audience. She is now continuing her pursuit of her Post Graduation in Bharatanatyam in Madras University. She has taught Bharatanatyam to hundreds of students at Vishwashanti Gurukul in Pandharpur.
Her inherent talent is recognized by Sri Rajani Raja Kalakshetram at Parvathipuram in the year 2018 and awarded her with their prestigious title “Sri kala”. Recognizing her burning zeal to express her talent, she is invited by Sri Sai Manjeera Kuchipudi Art Academy to give her special Bharata Natyam performance. There she is also awarded the prestigious title “Yuva Kala Ratna” in the hands of Sri Devineni Uma garu, Hon’ble Minister for Irrigation, A.P. as a mark of her achievement.
In Addition to these awards she has been declared as Miss Dabur Vatika 2nd winner in 2012 and Miss South India 2020 – Queen Andhra Pradesh and Viewers’ Choice awards.
Her mission is to establish Kalashetras everywhere.

7 Aspects of Bharatanatyam
In this course we will be going through the joyful journey of learning dance in 7 different aspects such as:
- Adavus (Basic Initial Steps)
- Theory (Importance of Bharatanatyam)
- Abhinaya (Facial expressions)
- Thalam (Rhythm)
- Compositions (Dance pieces)
- Choreography (Creative exploration)
- Presentation (Stage performance)
This package also includes learning how to portray yourself (makeup) for a stage performance while learning choreography and presentation.
For beginners, this is an amazing opportunity to start up with a strong base and build your world of dance which consists of 7 aspects of Bharatanatyam mentioned above.
For those who have already entered into some sort of Indian classical dance, this is a refinement and refreshing course to get a greater insight into the classical Bharatanatyam as offered by the famous Kalakshetra.
Course Structure
Each level of the course consists of 8 sessions
Two 1 and half hours sessions per week
•Fridays at 3:30pm to 5pm (IST)
•Saturdays at 6:30pm to 8pm (IST)
Two tests will be conducted to evaluate each level after every 4 sessions on the 3rd and 5th week
•Wednesday at 4:30pm to 5:30pm(IST)
after the alternate saturday’s sessions.
Successful participants will be eligible for a certificate of achievement and participation at the end of each level.
